Welcome to the Sanilac County Democratic Party. We serve county Democrats and strive to reach out to all citizens of the “Thumb” of Michigan through our volunteer “Blue Tiger” programs. We meet regularly at Liberty Lanes in Sandusky, and we communicate with members and interested others through a periodic newsletter and other means.

We're all aware the Koch Brothers (pronounced "coke" although no relation to Coca Cola, apparently) and their infamous deeds and powerful influence amongst Republicans, but now they've financed an anti-President Obama ad filled with falsehoods that has been called out by the Obama campaign. (Warning: this is a video, so unless you'e got broadband, get yourself a cup of coffee while it downloads). Fed up? Do something about it.
We're sure you didn't miss the right wing (aka Republican) backlash directed toward President Obama's "grand-standing" the anniversary of bin Laden's death, or the massive feed from the Obama campaign that was directed mostly between Romney's legs saying Romney is weak and wouldn't have called for the raid on bin Laden, but did you hear about the resignation of Romney's recently appointed foreign policy adviser that just happened on May 1--because he was taking so much heat from the large anti-gay community within the Republican Party? Well, it all actually links together as reading this clarification by Josh Marshall at TPM reveals that the Obama campaign pretty much got it right about Romney.
You might have read or heard angry Republican comments about the audacity of the President to make political the anniversary of the killing of Osama bin Laden. Well, Talking Points Memo first made this comment yesterday, then followed it up with another. The gist of it is that the Bush administration rejected the opportunity to get bin Laden, and the Obama Administration didn't, so the Bushies don't like being reminded of it, and the Romney's pooh-poohing of it doesn't carry weight. As TPM's Josh Marshall says, "If Don Rumsfeld would have kept his eye on the ball — hunting down bin Laden — ten years ago in the assault on Tora Bora, there would have been no assault to order one year ago."
And, then E.J. Dionne, Jr sums it up in his article "Obama’s winning strategy on foreign policy" in the Washington Post today.
We wondered when we would begin to see some results on the cost-effectiveness of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) in the media, so we were pleased to see that Talking Points Memo reports on information circulated by the White House on the cost-savings to seniors for their drugs. As the article points out though (at least as we see it) there is still a strong vocal opposition to anything that might save Americans a little money and that might result in the 1% not getting their fair share.
Looks like the Republican-dominated House in Washington is at it again, passing a "Small Business Tax Cut" that gives the "lion's share" of the money to 3% of the so-called "small businesses" in America, businesses like Donald Trump — Trump Sales and Leasing — or Paris Hilton Entertainment or Larry Flynt Publications. But let us keep in mind that the people who run the US House are, generally speaking, part of the 1%. Why wouldn't they look out for themselves and those who help them maintain their 1% status? See "The Fact Checker" column of the Washington Post.
Chris Cilizza writing in his column in the Wash. Post raises this question: "Is the tea party still relevant?" We respect Cillizza's view as he's a strong progressive voice in the media, but why would anyone dismiss the threat posed by a sleeping alligator along the road? Sure, it's one thing to stop the car and take a picture, but to get out just to get a better angle? That's just plain stupid. This election is going to be a matter of getting out the vote, plain and simple. And, in spite of what Cillizza says to the contrary, there is nothing to stir up the masses of tea party cretins than the massive, race-baiting, truth-twisting, misanthropic GOTV campaign that the Koch brothers (and other 1%-ers) will be conducting nation-wide over the next six months.
And if you don't think the 1%-ers don't have "all the money," then why would the Adelson family still be "wasting" their hard-earned wealth by giving Gingrich's superPAC another boat-load of cash when they have to know his campaign is dead? Because, they're part of the 1%, that's why.
And just in, ALEC the "non-profit" enterprise childed recently for promoting "stand-your-ground" laws in many states, including MIchigan, has been the target of a New York Times front-page article "Conservative Nonprofit Acts as a Stealth Business Lobbyist." Definitely worth your immediate attention.
Enough said about Health Care Reform? " The government plans to announce today that the 2010 health care law will save Medicare beneficiaries $208 billion through 2020, and save Medicare itself $200 billion through 2016, based on a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services actuary report." (Emphasis added).
About Us
The Sanilac County Democratic Party is a robust organization that sees as its purpose a better life for working men and women, youth & seniors--every citizen.
➢We believe in an income tax plan that is fair to all, not one that focuses on benefitting special interests and the wealthy.
➢We believe in fair trade, not the "free" trade that has hurt our farmers and cost our manufacturing workers their jobs.
➢We believe in health care protections that this richest nation in the world has the capability to provide, and we believe in prescription drug care that is within the means of all, not solely those who can afford to pay the drug prices that are higher than our neighbors in Canada and most of the rest of the world.
➢We believe that Social Security, America's greatest social program, is in good shape and with adjustments will continue to assist retirement plans for all of us.
➢We oppose privatization of Social Security as stockbroker greed that has failed in this and other countries.
➢We believe that all working people in the fields and in the shops should receive fair compensation, be allowed to work in a safe environment and be allowed the right for their voices to be heard.
